The youngest sibling of the lot is now bigger, better and smarter than ever and one cannot ignore it because the baby BMW has recently gone through a transition phase. So, this is the third-gen model of the X1 and these kinds of results were anticipated from it. The only uninteresting fact about it is that the engine options available might not be able to do justice to what this new SUV is capable of but again, this SUV is catering to a wider audience and keeping that in mind, this might be the correct plan.

The news is BMW has finally launched the 2023 X1 in India with a price tag ranging between Rs.45.90 Lakhs to Rs.47.90 Lakhs (ex-showroom, pan India). Are you someone considering it? Well, here are the details related to it down below.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Third-generation BMW X1 has made its debut in India.
  • Available with petrol as well as a diesel engine option.
  • Price of the entry-level SUV starts at Rs.45.95 Lakhs.

2023 BMW X1: What’s new?

Exterior and Design

BMW has confirmed that the updated X1 is not only virtually bigger but the dimensions have also been reworked.

Other changes in the form of revised design are also visible on all four ends. The front profile for example is now aggressive and features a completely new headlamp setup with DRLs incorporated inside it. BMW has also revised the front grille of the SUV and just like other models, the one available on the X1 is also larger than before.

The German marque has smartly enhanced the side profile with a new design for the alloy wheels. Talking about the rear profile, it now features some minor changes in the form of a new tailgate and wraparound LED taillamps.

Interior

The cabin of the 2023 X1 is comparatively spacious and feels better than what the rivals offer. Most importantly, the German brand has decided not to borrow anything from the previous generation model.

The best bit about the new SUV is the dashboard which now comprises a large dual-screen setup. Here, the first one is reserved for an intuitive touchscreen infotainment system. Whereas, the screen next to it is an all-digital instrument cluster.

There is even a sporty steering wheel which is further a new addition to the update list.

Engine, Performance and Transmission

During the launch, BMW confirmed that the new X1 would be available in two different variants. The same differentiation applies to the engine options as well.

Starting with the entry-level sDrive 18i xLine variant, it comes powered by a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of churning out a decent 134 horsepower and 230Nm of peak torque.

Then, there’s a slightly powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel motor known for producing 148 horsepower and 360Nm of peak torque.

When compared the diesel engine is obviously better in terms of both fuel efficiency and performance. If you want to get into the numbers, the diesel pot is smart enough to push the baby SUV to clock a triple-digit speed in 8.9 seconds with a fuel efficiency rated at 20.37kmpl.

The petrol engine on the other hand takes its own sweet 9.2 seconds to do the same. Meanwhile, the fuel efficiency of the same stands at 16.3kmpl.

For transmission duties, BMW has deployed a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission across the entire range.

Rivals

In India, BMW X1 will continue competing with other German rivals including Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
