2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS: S-Class of SUVs Just Got Better!

Design & Exterior

Just look at it. Isn’t the new GLS an absolute machine that attracts a lot of attention? For that, all credit goes to the massive size of the SUV and, of course, the mid-life update it has received.

Starting from the front end, the 2024 GLS is slapped with a new grille that uses 4 large slats. This is something rare on a Mercedes, but on the new GLS, it looks balanced. Then, the headlight assembly is just like the outgoing model. However, some new details inside, help the entire front fascia look completely refreshed.

Lastly, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the SUV now comes equipped with fresh bumpers both at the front and rear.

Interior

Just like the exterior, the interior of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS does not feature a major rework, and frankly, it will require enough attention to find the changes exactly are. The first change that can be witnessed is the introduction of the new steering wheel, inspired by the 2023 S-Class. The next change inside the cabin is a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that now comes with the latest MBUX system along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Additionally, the new GLS also gets the Parking Package with a 360-degree camera. Now what this new Package helps is providing the virtual view under the bonnet of the SUV to help the driver while Off-Road mode is selected.

Powertrain

Mercedes-Benz, at the launch event, confirmed that the new GLS will be available in two different variants. The first one remains GLS 450 and is powered by a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine. With adequate power rated at 381 horsepower and 500Nm, this motor comes paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Another major highlight of this power unit is that it takes slightly more than 6 seconds to clock a triple-digit speed.

Next in the list is the 450d variant that uses a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel engine to produce 362 horsepower and 700Nm. The gearbox offered on this variant is similar to the same on the petrol variant.

The interesting part about the entire range is that it features a mild-hybrid system that pushes the output by almost 20 horsepower and 200Nm.

Price List: 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS

Variants Price (Ex-showroom, India)
450 Rs.1.32 Crores
450d Rs.1.37 Crores

Rivals

Currently, the luxury SUVs that give Mercedes-Benz GLS a tough competition are BMW X7 and Volvo XC90. Other than this, it also compares with Audi Q7 in the Indian market.
