Skoda Fabia was the only hatchback to represent the Czech carmaker in the Indian market. In the beginning, the idea of introducing a premium hatchback slightly worked for Skoda. However, Fabia performed poorly at a later stage and to be precise, the carmaker managed to sell only 3,343 units for the FY 2012-2013.

Skoda has finally revealed the 2021 Fabia for the global market. And, mind you, it looks absolutely stunning in its fourth-gen avatar.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The 2021 Skoda Fabia has made its global debut with multiple cosmetic and feature updates.
  • The updated hatchback uses the MQB A0 platform and is longer than before.
  • It is now available with three petrol engines on offer where two of them are turbocharged units.

In terms of design, Skoda Fabia remains similar to its elder sibling. To be very frank, it looks identical to the recently revealed Kushaq. At the front, there is an aggressive LED headlight setup, signature grille, sculpted bonnet hood, headlamp washers, fog lamps and large air intakes. Coming to the side profile, one might be able to witness lines and creases that enhance the overall look. However, in order to take it to another level, Skoda has introduced alloy wheels ranging from 15 to 18-inches.

Surprisingly, the new design language has helped Fabia to obtain a drag coefficient of 0.28. This way, it is now more aerodynamic when compared to its outgoing counterpart.

Enter the cabin, and customers will be able to connect with the interior. For instance, the updated hatchback now gets a dual-spoke multifunctional steering wheel and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Sadly, this instrument cluster will only be available on the top-end variant. Features such as ambient lighting, rear AC vents, panoramic sunroof, USB C charging port, two-zone climate control and the heated steering wheel is expected to be available as standard. However, the carmaker has introduced different kinds of touchscreen infotainment system on the Fabia depending upon the variant.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, customers get the option to choose among three petrol engines on offer. To be precise, the entry-level variant comes with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor. In terms of numbers, it is truly capable of producing other 65HP or 80HP while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The other one is a 1.0-litre TSI engine that comes tuned in two separate manners. The one that produces 95HP gets a 5-speed manual gearbox. Whereas, the 110HP motor will also be available with a 7-speed DSG transmission.

Interestingly, there is a top-end variant that is available with a 1.5-litre TSI engine. Talking in numbers, it is extremely capable of producing 150HP alongside a peak torque of 250Nm. For now, it comes paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission only.

Performance-wise, this top-end variant can do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 7.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed from the same stands at 225kmph.
