As a mid-life update, Mercedes-Benz has revised the CLS range with some striking style elements while introducing a mild-hybrid setup to the diesel variant. Apart from the updates, the German brand has also added a new top-spec variant named AMG CLS 53 4Matic+ to the lineup. Interestingly, only 300 units of this variant will be available globally. As a result, it will be a one time deal to own a special edition version of this particular sedan.

The carmaker has recently listed the EQS sedan on their Indian website, and therefore we think even the updated CLS will make its way to the Indian shores very soon.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed the 2021 CLS that is expected to arrive soon in India.
  • It gets multiple cosmetic updates with mild-hybrid technology for the diesel variants.
  • The updated Mercedes-Benz CLS will continue to rival the BMW 6 Series GT in India.

To begin with, the updated CLS range now comes with a revised radiator grille. Even, the Spectral Blue exterior shade and a new set of multispoke alloy wheels are a part of this mid-life update.

At the front, the entry-level variant gets a reworked front bumper with a chrome splitter. The side profile of the updated sedan on the other hand remains very similar to the older one. However, just to keep the sedan more relevant to the modern world, the carmaker has introduced a new set of 19-inch multispoke alloy wheels as well. Surprisingly, as a part of the update, the entry-level variant also gets a black diffuser at the rear end.

Inside the cabin, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz CLS comes with multiple trim options. Also, customers can further tailor it using a wide variety of seat upholstery including Sienna Brown-Black and Neva Grey-Magma Grey. Apart from all these updates, the all-new CLS is also expected to come with the latest MBUX infotainment system alongside a new multifunctional steering wheel among others.

Not to forget, the CLS 300d variant gets a mild-hybrid powertrain. To be precise, it comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that comes with an integrated starter generator. Interestingly, this new motor is capable of giving a sudden burst of power that stands at 20HP and 200Nm. Other variants such as CLS 350, CLS 450, 220d, 330d and 400d will remain untouched.

As mentioned earlier, only 300 units of the Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4Matic+ will be available globally. For starters, it gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with mild hybrid technology that together produces a combined output of 435HP. Apart from the updates, this variant will be available with either a White or Grey colour scheme. On top of this, it will get a black interior with an AMG Dynamic Plus package as well.

Rivals

Globally, the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLS will compete against the likes of Audi A7, BMW 6 Series GT and Porsche Panamera among others. Want to know more about its prime rival? Then, take a look at the BMW 6 Series GT.
