Electrification is the next chapter of the automotive industry and it is giving leverage to car makers who wish to try. Try unique products. In the past, we have witnessed some exciting vehicles from these brands while some automakers were just busy deriving inspiration from their ICE-powered counterparts.

It looks like MG Motors believed in trying it in a different manner, as a result, we have witnessed an upside-down phenomenon. They first launched the ZS EV unlike others and the petrol version of the same was launched afterwards with the Astor name tag slapped on it.

Now one more time, they have tried something unique. And this time, it is a very small car, similar to the Tata Nano, named MG Comet. The brownie point is this one is an EV.

The carmaker just announced that it will be accepting bookings for the same. But before our readers take their next step forward, we would like to share some valuable insights on the MG Comet.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • MG Comet EV has made its debut in India.
  • Bookings for the Comet EV is now open.
  • Price of the same starts at Rs.9.28 Lakhs.

MG Comet EV: Explained

Exterior & Design

First thing first, it’s a very compact hatchback aimed at improving urban mobility. Looking at the traffic congestion these days, one might think of opting for this as his/her everyday ride.

Another beauty about this EV is MG Motors is very clear about what it’s going to offer. The brand clearly says that it will seat a maximum of four occupants which is another sign that the brand is not being over-ambitious.

Interior & Features

At the time of launch, the variants were confirmed and the entire Comet range was divided in three trim levels, namely Pace, Play and Plush.

Based on the variants, the feature list will vary. However, to give you a basic idea, it comes loaded with twin floating screens reserved for the all-digital instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The brand even boasts that the cabin is smart with 55+ Connected Car Features and over 100 voice commands.

All of it together makes the EV a heavily tech-loaded product.

Powertrain

A 17.3kWh Lithium-ion battery has been placed under the floor and it is said to be IP67-rated. The flex does not end here as MG Motors has also confirmed that the same has gone over several safety tests, confirming its reliability. The range from this battery pack stands at 230kms aimed at removing range anxiety.

Add-Ons & Safety

The battery pack that was mentioned above is not only a tried and tested unit but even comes with an 8 year/20,000kms warranty.

Worried about your safety? The automaker promises that Comet EV consists of a high-strength body. Taking the occupant’s safety further are dual airbags, ABS with EBD, three-point seat belts and a tyre pressure monitoring system among others.

With an introductory price tag ranging between Rs.9.28 Lakhs to Rs.9.98 Lakhs, Comet EV feels like a promising product. The mini hatchback is capable of turning the tables with what it offers and there are other frills such as the Smart Ownership Package that make it worth considering.
