Finally! Jeep has launched the all-new Wrangler in India and the good news is that the offroader is now assembled in the country itself. The ‘Made in India’ Jeep Wrangler carries a price tag of Rs.53.90 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, when compared to the outgoing counterpart, it is now affordable by a huge Rs.10 Lakh margin. Further, the American carmaker has priced the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon at Rs.57.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Interestingly, the company has started delivering the all-new Wrangler from today itself.

‘Made in India’ Jeep Wrangler

Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine, the all-new Jeep Wrangler is capable of producing a massive 268BHP of power and 400Nm of torque. Further, it comes mated to an 8-speed torque converter gearbox as standard. The all-new Wrangler will get an all-time 4WD system on both variants. Mechanically, these offroaders are available with dedicated suspension setup and electronically locking front as well as rear differentials.

To enhance the offroad capability, the Unlimited variant runs on a set of 18-inch tyres. However, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is expected to come with a set of proper offroad tyres. Further, it is also better in terms of ground clearance and approach angles when compared to the Unlimited variant. Feature-wise, the Jeep Wrangler range gets LED headlamps with DRLs, an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, two-zone climate control and a 7.0-inch MID display on the instrument cluster to name a few. Apart from this, there are many safety features that are available on the all-new range including ESC, multiple airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system and hill descent control among others.

Further, five color schemes are available on the ‘Made in India’ Jeep Wrangler, including –

  • Firecracker Red,
  • Sting Grey,
  • Granite Crystal,
  • Black and
  • Bright White

Rivals

Currently, there are no direct rivals of the Jeep Wrangler in India. However, in terms of offroad capability, it is the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes Benz G350d that go head-on against the likes of the all-new SUV.

Land Rover Defender At A Glance

Firstly, Land Rover Defender does not use a body-on-frame platform. However, even after that, it is a modern SUV that is extremely capable off the road. Apart from this, just like the global variant of Wrangler, the all-new Defender is available with a three-door variant called Defender 90 and a five-door variant known as Defender 110. In India, it is available with both – a diesel as well as a petrol engine. However, the British carmaker has recently launched the all-new Defender with a supercharged V8 motor.
