Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki has overtaken the first position of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) in the list of India’s largest utility vehicle (UV) makers in May. The feat was achieved riding on the success of Brezza and Ertiga MPV. These two cars have helped Maruti Suzuki to beg 1st position in the list.

During the launch, the company was sure that these two cars will dominate the compact SUV space. While the result is also in the favor of the company as M&M sold 18,363 units in April and 19,331 units in May, while Maruti sold 20,638 units in April and 22,608 units in May.

Chairman of Maruti Suzuki, RC Bhargava said, “I am not surprised by the numbers we have been able to generate in the utility vehicle segment, but I will not read too much in the leadership in utility vehicle segment. It is clear that if you make a good product and offer right quality and features, people will choose your product.”

While Rajan Wadhera of  Mahindra & Mahindra justifies,”With the size of the base of the market expanding, the market leader is bound to lose some share. External factors such as the court’s stand against diesel and large SUVs also hurt us. And this also led to increasing demand for petrol SUVs”.

Maruti Suzuki is selling more than 10,000 units of Vitara Brezza every month and has over 50,000 bookings whereas Mahindra’s plans to retain the spot with KUV 100, TUV 300, Nuvo Sport and Bolero Plus but completely failed.
