Surprising news from the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company has announced that it has completely acquired all rights of the legendary British Motorcycle manufacturer Norton in a deal worth 153 Crore rupees. South India’s most popular motorcycle manufacturer is known for its standard as well as sports bikes like Apache, has just announced the successful acquisition of Norton which is no doubt the most famous classical bike manufacturer in Great Britain. As per the official statements from the company officials the company has finally acquired all the assets of Norton Motorcycle (UK) Limited with the help one of its overseas subsidiaries. The takeover can be viewed as one of the biggest acquisitions by any Indian manufacturer of mainstream motorcycles.

If we look at the history of Norton, the company was founded by James Lansdowne Norton in Birmingham in 1898 and Stuart Gardner who is currently the CEO of Norton has to be under investigation for pension fraud. Leaving all this matter, now it would be quite interesting to note how TVS works with Norton for its betterment.

The most important aspect of this deal is that the Indian motorcycle manufacturer TVS will be having easy access to Norton’s new 650cc transmission series which is as same as that used by Royal Enfield and this will help TVS to prove as a strong rival to Royal Enfield 650cc twins.

As per the interview with Joint Managing Director, Mr Sudarshan Venu said: “The company is confident that both the companies will share a strong synergy between them, and hence Norton Motorcycle will prove to be helping hand for the company in order to achieve global reach and supply chain capabilities to expand to new markets as well”. He also added, “Norton is an iconic British brand will help TVS by providing immense opportunity to scale and expand globally. Mr Sudarshan also said that TVS Motor will continue to work with customers and employees in building the success and pre-eminence of the Norton Motorcycles brand and the company looks forward in growing together globally in upcoming years.
