Amazon India, which is fiercely competing with Flipkart for the pole position in the Indian eCommerce market, is planning to set up three new Fulfillment Centres.

The new centres are said to be the part of company’s expansion plans, and are expected to be open for business by Diwali. Commenting on this, Akhil Saxena, Vice President (India Customer Fulfillment), Amazon India, said,

We are setting up three new Fulfilment Centres (where the goods bound for delivery to customers are stored) at Hyderabad, outer areas of Gurgaon and Ahmedabad soon, and with this the total number of such facilities will increase to 41 in the country.

The company has inaugurated its 38th and Madhya Pradesh’s first Fulfillment Centre, spread over 40,000 sq ft area on the Ring Road in Indore. In Madhya Pradesh, nearly 6,000 sellers are associated with Amazon, 2,200 of them from Indore and nearby areas.

Amazon India has increased the area under its fulfilment centres by 60% to 4 million sq ft in the first quarter of 2017 from a year ago by opening seven new warehouses. It has recently opened new fulfilment centres in Telangana, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

The company is also planning to double the capacity at its Ahmedabad warehouse and expand its fulfilment centre in Delhi sixfold to meet the increased requirement from these regions.

Amazon’s rival Flipkart had earlier announced that it will be setting up 10 new fulfilment centres focused on storing and handling bulky goods, as it chases high-margin and high average sale price categories, especially large appliances and furniture.
