In view of the disruption caused by Covid-19 pandemic to education, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and several state school boards including the Bihar school examination board (BSEB) have sent a proposal to the state government seeking for reduction in the syllabus .

Although, the department of education is yet to come up with any kind of information on this.  It is yet to think over the proposal and the matter has been referred to a group of expert from the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and other academicians. A major decision needs to be taken in order to decide what could be done to take the load off the students. The reduction in the syllabus should be such that it should not hurt their prospects for higher as well as technical education like JEE, NEET, CLAT etc.

Although the syllabus has been reduced by the CBSE  but still the teachers have been asked to explain even those topic, which had been removed. This would ensure that the students do not have any problems in future in understanding the related topics. However, in the internal assessment as well as board exams, the reduced topics will not be included .

Singh stated that in order to go with reduction in the syllabus, we need to plan it meticulously. Hence the team of experts had been asked to decide how to go about it. He added that “the proposal is currently being reviewed by the concerned authorities”.

As per one of the senior education department official, he stated that reducing the syllabus was an uphill task. He added on to more information that  “The  students are filling up the forms for board exams  but it is a fact that education has been  badly impacted amid this pandemic and would continue to be impacted” .
