Just after a day of protesting against the contractual recruitment of teachers in the premises, the Delhi University Academic Council approved the recruitment of teachers on a contractual basis. The Council has introduced Ordinance XII for the same. The ordinance says that the teachers will be recruited only for a period of one year.

“We were protesting against the proposal since the morning, but the matter was brought up and passed with our note of dissent” AC member Pankaj Garg said.

According to AC member Saikat Ghosh “We already have the provision for temporary appointments for vacancies filled by ad hoc teachers for four months. Since these vacancies can be filled by teachers appointed on ad hoc basis, contractual appointment is not required in DU. It has forced DU to add to the already exploitative conditions prevailing for ad hoc teachers by introducing contractual employment in which there are no benefits, no allowances, no leaves, no increments, and no job security.”

The AC also dicussed about the re-employment policy to hire back the retired teachers at the age of 65.
