A union of 26 doctors from different states has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court demanding the postponement of INI CET 2021 exam to a further date. Several students and doctors are seen opposing the exam since past few weeks.

The Institutes of National Importance Combined Entrance Test is currently scheduled to be held on June 16. This exam is held every year for entrance in postgraduate Medical courses. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is the organising body for INI CET.

In the petition, the doctors have mentioned the reason that current situations due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic are unfavorable for conduction of exam in any form. Organising the exams would directly expose the doctors to a risk of getting infected by the corona virus.

Doctors further added that the new exam dates are against the assurance given by Prime minister office (PMO) that aspirant will be informed a month prior to the exam. But the officials released the new dates on a short notice just 18 days earlier. This created a state of uncertainty among them.

The PIL has legally mentioned the indirect violation of the fundamental rights of aspirants under the article 14 and article 21 of the Indian Public Constitution. Article 14 is violated in terms where rest of the PG entrance exams are either being postponed or cancelled but not the INI CET.

Most of the aspirants appearing in this exam are Doctors currently serving as front-line workers in COVID duties. The candidates has now been left with very less time to prepare for the exams as they have to also complete the 100 days duty as asked by the centre.

A few days ago, the Students union of india mainly ABVP and NSUI also demanded to postpone the postgraduate Medical Entrance Exam. However, the AIIMS has completed every preparation for organizing the exam and would likely conduct it as scheduled.
