Chandigarh has emerged out to be on top in the country with a total gross enrolment ratio of 56% and gross enrolment of women of 67%.

Education Secretary, Chandigarh, B L Sharma, shared his views addressing the conference on ‘Rising Chandigarh: Inclusive Sustainable, Entrepreneurial’ which was held at the CII. he also shared his views upon the huge potential that Chandigarh has to become’ Education City’ of India.

Sharma highlighted the facts which show that Chandigarh will prove to be extraordinary well in the field of education, “We are proud to have some of the finest colleges with a total gross enrolment ratio of 56% and a 67% gross enrolment of women, which is the best in the entire country.” He also mentioned that Chandigarh was ranked Fourth when per capita income was concerned.

Arjun Sharma, director, information technology, Chandigarh administration mentioned the IT initiatives taken by the Union Territory such as ‘e-campus solution’ for all schools and colleges of the city that helped record information regarding admissions, students, syllabus, teachers, learning outcome, etc. Also, this initiative was also rewarded under the Prime Minister’s Digital India Programme.

He also shared various other initiatives of the IT department which would help digitalize government operations for technology to develop and grow, “We are in the process of implementing block-wise chain in land resources of the city, keeping in view the need to digitize,” said Arjun.

With the presence of Sanjay Beniwal, DGP, UT Chandigarh, he suggested to increase job opportunities for the disadvantaged category, he advised the audience for engaging the society into providing skills to construct industrial labor. He also mentioned their initiative in Delhi where they started skill development in police stations and provided jobs to people.

Sofi Zahoor, chairman, CII Chandigarh council, “CII was striving to touch upon all its aspects, including policy, industry, academia, skill enhancement, youth, and women”.
Sachit Jain, chairman, CII northern region, said that “Chandigarh has all ingredients to develop as a role model for all other cities to follow.”
