The Indian Government has planned to launch an online portal to answer the queries of parents and students who are considering to study in foreign countries. The portal is named as ‘Global Indian Students Portal’ (GISP). This said to be an “reliable and one-point service delivery platform” for helping students to get admission in foreign institutes.

The portal will address basic queries of students like the available options of university and colleges in abroad, scholarships, status of education loan and medical insurance and similarly several others. Such questions have increased in the past few years of due to the pandemic as studies in abroad has became a concern.

The functionalities of this portal will be finalized in July and then it will be launced for the public. The portal is said to have a module designed for registration of students and it will consist a system which will provide country-wise information of the colleges, universities and the courses offered by them in a easy-to-understand manner.

The students will get links to Indian commissions in foreign countries of their interest via the portal. It will also provide consultation facility with expert career councellor so that students can understand things in a better way. Most importantly, the portal will inform about the recognised status of any particular institute in its country.

Regarding the scholarships, the portal will offer both options for government and private sourced scholarships. GISP will also consist a dedicated section for contacts to Financial institution and banks offering education loan as per the requirement of applicant. Similarly, an another section will provide overall information about the medical insurance.

Government’s main reason behind designing this portal is to facilitate student and their parents in making a better choice over the selection of foreign colleges. Government has reported such cases where students were misguided regarding this decisions. Approximately 11 lakh students opt for higher studies in abroad every academic year.
