The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur will be organizing the Graduate Aptitude Test in engineering or GATE 2022. GATE is a national-level entrance exam for postgraduate courses in engineering. Each year, Any one of the 7 participating IITs is elected as the organizing institute for this exam.

This year, IIT Bombay successfully conducted the GATE 2021 and now has handed over the responsibility to IIT Kharagpur. The director of IIT Bombay, Subhasis Chaudhri, handed over the chairmanship of NCB-GATE 2022 to Virendra Singh Tewari, the director of IIT Kharagpur.

The National Coordination Board (NCB) is responsible for choosing the new organizing institute every year and monitoring all the processes for successful conduction. The NCB has also decided to introduce two new papers in GATE this year.

Out of this two new papers, One is Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and the other is Geometrics Engineering. For the GATE 2021 exams, IIT Bombay also introduced two new papers – Humanities and Environmental Science. IITs are adding more options every year as the applying candidates are also increasing.

With the addition of two new papers, the appearing candidates can now choose out of 29 subjects. The Board will also increase the number of exam centres inorder to maintain social distancing as there are more registered students for GATE 2022 then the previous year.

The GATE examination is conducted among 8 zones in the country jointly by 7 IITs and IISc. An institute is choosen each year on the rotational basis. Inspite of the Nation-wide Pandemic, IIT-Bombay successfully held the GATE 2021 with a total of about 8.8 Lakh appearing students.

Last year, the eligibility criteria for exam was also relaxed by the IIT Bombay. It allowed the students of third year to appear in the exams as well. This criteria will also be applicable for GATE 2022.  Now, the students can also seek their scorecards for 3 years from the declaration of results.
