The Government of Maharashtra has issued instructions for all the schools to give admission in new academic session on provisional basis without the mandatory submission of transfer certificate (TC) or School-leaving certificate (LC). The schools cannot deny admission of any student in lack of this certificates.

The decision has been taken after a number of complaints were recieved that parents and students are facing issues during admissions as schools are demanding the transfer certificate. Since all the school exams are cancelled due to pandemic, most of the schools has not yet released the results, marksheet and passing certificates.

Recently from June 11, schools in maharashtra have began the admission process under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for 25 percent of the reserved seats offered in entry-level classes. During the process of this admissions, schools are prohibiting student’s enrollment in the absence of transfer certificate.

Announcement regarding this decision was made by State education Minister Varsha Gaikwad via her official twitter handle. In a series of tweets, she wrote that many students are changing schools due to financial reasons in current extraordinary situations. Every child has the right to education and at the schools of their choice.

Denying admissions in new schools just because of the absence of TC/LC is an violation to the RTE Act and a miscarriage of justice. Thus the government has introduced the criteria of admission on provisional basis. This rule will also be applicable for admissions in Class 9th and 10th along with 1st to 8th, added the education minister.

The Education minister has ordered that principals and administrators of schools have the responsibility to monitor that no admissions are denied in such cases. The government will take strict legal actions against schools who are found to disobey the orders. The birth/age certificate has to be deemed sufficient for admissions.
