The Punjab and Haryana Govt. High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to Punjab’sĀ Education department Secretary Krishan Kumar and Director-general of school education Prashant Goyal for non-compliance of HC orders of not providing school uniforms to the students.

On December 14, last year, the court instructed the Department to release a grant for purchasing uniforms for eligible students within two weeks.

The State Govt. failed to provide funds to the department. Aggrieved C Arora filed a petition before the court on Tuesday, seeking directions to take actions against the officials of Punjab School Department for non-compliance of orders.

Issuing a notice to the education department, Justice Nirmaljit Kaur of High Court asked the two officials to file a reply on the issue by February 10.

In the previous petition, it was revealed that it was winter, but the state Govt. has not credited Rs 600 grant in the bank accounts of eligible students. In November 2015, a PIL was filed by him to ensure eligible students got winter uniforms.

He also confirmed that the release of the grant was delayed yet again, considering the fact that winter was here. “Any further delay in doing the needful would frustrate the scheme itself,” he said.

Hearing this, the court directed the secretary of the Education Department and Secretary of Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to initiate providing grants to students of Class1 to VIII. to SC/ST/BPL and girl students of Govt. schools within two weeks.
