The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu announced that the pending exams for classes 10 and 11 will be canceled and all the students will be promoted. The exams were canceled due to lockdown and that it is difficult to conduct exams in the pandemic.

This decision affects around 9.7 lakh students. This decision came into effect on Tuesday as the numbers of virus cases were increasing day by day. Both Madras High Court and opposition parties accused the government for an increase in virus cases.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami reported that this decision came into effect after making a detailed assessment. He said that “Epidemiologists have opined that there is no scope for reduction in the spread of the virus in a short period of time.” The students will be graded based on their performance in internal exams such as and half-yearly exams. The attendance percentage will also be taken into account.

However, the exams for class 12 will be held later. DMK and other parties welcomed this decision.

Puducherry government too will follow this decision. The Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy said that this norm implies to the students studying in Puducherry and Karaikal.
