University of Delhi is set to introduce a School of Climate Change and Sustainability to address the challenges prevailing in the society. The course aims to train the students in various aspects of climate change and sustainability.

The university said that Professor C R Babu, a known environmental scientist will head DSCC&S (honorary director) and professor Inderjit Singh, a renowned plant ecologist of international repute will take part as Joint Director.

The university has been provided with supporting schemes under its Institution of Eminence Scheme by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. This will promote them to conduct intensive research in the cutting edge areas and develop as world-class university.

The statement mentioned that the institution will conduct research in the important areas of environmental changes and challenges. All the important research such as areas of energy, resource recycling, which include wastewater management and solid waste management and resource enhancement will be conducted.

In addition to that, the university will collaborate with the foreign departments to fulfill the research objectives. The university said that, “The school will develop a cadre of qualified professionals and practitioners and evolve leaders who will translate socio-ecological theories into practical solutions for meeting the challenges of national priority – sustainable development”
