With quite a number of successful films, the trend of of biopics is rising high in Bollywood. While Ajay Devgn himself has acted in Bhagat Singh’s biopic The Legend of Bhagat Singh and is currently shooting for Maidaan based on the life of Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, it seems the actor is going one step ahead and will be producing a biopic without acting in it.

Ajay Devgn will be making a film on the life of Ramsay Brothers who have made a number of B grade horror films and are even considered as the king of the genre. His production partner Priti Sinha has acquired the rights of an adaptation of the life of the Ramsay Brothers and together they will be backing the project which will be penned by Ritesh Shah. Shah has written the screen play of films like Citylights, Airlift, Madari, Pink and others.

Daughter of producer Vinay Sinha, Priti, who has previously backed films like David (2013) and Stumped (2003), told Mid-Day, “The family has put their faith in us by giving us the rights [to a film on their life]. Ajay and I are excited to depict the fascinating journey of passion, hardship and success of three generations of the family that established the horror empire in India.”

A source close to the development said, “The Ramsay Brothers have made over 30 horror films in India. They are the masters of the horror genre, and that will be shown in the biopic. As of now, the makers are yet to decide whether this project should be a movie or a web series.” The source adds that Devgn will not double up as a cast-member for this offering.

The Ramsay Brothers have given the Indian film industry horror hits like Veerana (1988), Purana Mandir (1984), Darwaza (1978), Bandh Darwaza (1990) and Purani Haveli (1989), among others. While Tulsi Ramsay passed away in December 2018, Shyam Ramsay succumbed to pneumonia two months ago.
