When I watched Fight Club, Seven and Zodiac for the first time, I framed David Fincher as one of the filmmakers who is a master in delivering great thrillers especially due to the mysterious characters from the real world who reside amongst each one of us, the time is the matter until we get it out against the system be it, Tyler Durden, in Fight Club as an imaginary identity but giving us a true face of how we might be getting fooled in our daily lives, a crazy yet quite real take in a thrilling way marks it as one of the best films of last few decades. Then the lane of similar characters goes in with Seven and Zodiac.

And these films made an image of Fincher within my mind, his style of filmmaking, the approach towards mysteries of life, I started discovering more of his filmography until I watched The Social Network which was a depiction of the true story of a man behind creating on of the biggest and world-famous social network now Facebook. The film changed me the way I looked at Fincher’s filmography. The man who made the finest of thrillers delivered a true story in the most interesting and engaging way possible with a different theme relating to the characters altogether.

A still from The Social Network

Among the various themes of the film included the loneliness in the age of the internet. The film was inspired by the court cases that went on and at the same time talking about the life of Mark Zuckerberg as he dealt with his social life and went on creating the social media platform. The film might not be all real, some parts might be fictionalized but the theme that remains constant in the clash of ideas and the user’s privacy for which the company has been controversial right from its discovery and continues to be even today.

Fincher’s style of filmmaking here was different than the rest of his films as he dealt with different characters at the same time which were actually a part of the reality. But here in he talked more about the inner chaos rather than the problems with the flawed system. It enlightened the flaws and complex nature of human beings in the age of the internet and what people were letting go of. It is considered to be one of the best films because it described what changing the world means.
