Get ready to witness the best British shows compete with each other on the biggest platform, The BAFTA awards. The awards which will take place at the end of July, will live albeit without any audience or stars. The academy has announced the nominees for the awards.

HBO leads the way, with Chernobyl which chronicles the worst nuclear incident in human history, bagging 14 nominations. The nominations are of two kinds, television and television craft.

Krishnendu Majumdar, chair of the BAFTA in an interview said, that they received 500 entries this year. The award ceremony will take place in a new way this year, with the Coronavirus pandemic making it impossible to hold a ceremony filled with people.

As things stand, all the nominees will film their speeches, while the planned live element to the show, actor and filmmaker, Richard Ayode will present.

“All those details are being worked out at the moment because the social distancing rules are changing. What we can say at the moment is that there will be a show in a studio and we’re working out the participants” said Majumdar.

Netflix’s Crown, which is about Queen Elizabeth and premiered its its third season last year, has 7 nominations. Also nominated for the best drama series. While Chernoby’s nominations include, leading actor(Jared Harris), Supporting actor (Stellan Skarsgard) and mini series.

Among other popular series nominated, include Fleabad and Giri/Haji with 6 nominations each. The award ceremony will be held on July 31, while the television craft awards on July 17.
