After making a lot of noise, the two major releases of this week Pati Patni Aur Woh and Panipat finally came out in cinema halls yesterday on 6 December. And going by their first day performance at the box office, Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ananya Panday starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh has emerged as the winner.
According to film trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh, the Mudassar Aziz directorial opened to good numbers and collected Rs 9.10 crore on day one. The film, that was mired in controversy for marital rape joke which was eventually deleted, has become Aaryan’s biggest opener leaving behind Luka Chuppi that collected Rs 8 crore on its first day.
#PatiPatniAurWoh is excellent on Day 1… This, despite competing with another biggie [#Panipat], which resulted in screens/shows getting divided… Expect solid growth on Day 2 and 3… Emerges #KartikAaryan’s biggest opener… Fri ₹ 9.10 cr. #India biz.

On the other hand, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker’s extravaganza Panipat witnessed a lukewarm response at the box office on its first day. The historical drama that stars Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Sanjay Dutt collected only Rs 4.12 crore on its opening day. The film’s showcasing at multiplexes was affected by its excessive run time which is close to three hours.
#Panipat records low numbers on Day 1… Reports [word of mouth] are positive and its biz, hopefully, should see a turnaround on Day 2 and 3… Fri ₹ 4.12 cr [2395 screens]. #India biz… Showcasing at multiplexes affected due to excessive run time [close to 3 hours].

According to a report on Box Office India, Pati Patni Aur Woh has registered the highest numbers in Delhi / UP with collections topping the Rs 2 crore mark. The film is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name. While the original film was a totally Mumbai circuit film, a different feel for the new film has made it a more universal film. The film is expected to witness a growth in its numbers on Saturday and Sunday.
Panipat, on the other hand, is performing much better in Maharashtra than the rest of the country. The bulk of the collections are coming from Maharashtra which means circuits like Mumbai, CP Berar and Nizam / Andhra have done the best. The collections in Nizam / Andhra at Rs 35 lakh are similar to Pati Patni Aur Woh despite that film doing double the numbers at an all India level.
