Upon receiving the award, Nolan said: “As a passionate advocate of film and the importance of film culturally, it is really thrilling to me that film would be honored in this way and is considered worthy of this kind of honor.” He further added, “I think film is one of the great collective pastimes, one of the great art forms. It is lovely to see it accorded this kind of status.”

The award is given to recognize the contribution of people from Britain in the field of politics, philanthropy and cinema. The earlier recipients from the famous slot are author J.K. Rowling, singer Ed Sheeran and fashion designer Victoria Beckham.

Nolan is now gearing up for his action thriller film Tenet, which stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Dimple Kapadia. It is slated to hit theaters on 17 July, 2020.
