The Accidental Prime Minister’ has started a war among the political parties of the country. The moment its trailer was released, it became a part of the controversy. While Bhartiya Janata Party praised the trailer and asked people to watch it on its official Twitter handle, Congress called it a part of the propaganda.

The tweet posted by BJP, reads, “Riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years. Was Dr Singh just a regent who was holding on to the PM’s chair till the time heir was ready? Watch the official trailer of #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister, based on an insider’s account, releasing on 11 Jan!”

The tweet was just the fuel to the fire and Congress came in counter defense. Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala called it fake propaganda on Twitter.

Other parties also stood up and called it propaganda.

Congress is demanding film screening for the office bearers. In a letter Congress unit wrote, “If the said movie is released without prior screening for our office bearers and without making necessary changes recommended by us that we find out after viewing the movie it will be understood that you are doing this deliberately and we have other options open to stop the screening of the same across India.”

Congress leader in Maharashtra even threatened the filmmakers that if they don’t organize a preview and agree to edit parts that “malign” the image of the party, strict actions will be taken.

Anupam Kher who is playing Manmohan Singh part in the film said, “My job is to act, the filmmakers’ job is to make the film. All the information in the movie was out in the public domain since 2014. If someone has a complaint, they should file it but there should be no goondagardi.” He also reminded Rahul Gandhi his recent tweet about the importance of freedom of expression.

“There will be a different kind of interpretations and one can have their own interpretation. People release patriotic films during Independence Day or Republic Day. This is a political film and we would like to release it in the election time. What is the problem with that?” Kher said at the trailer launch.

Talking to ANI Madhur Bhandarkar said, “It’s a Déjà vu moment for me, last year Indu Sarkar, my movie on emergency was agitated against, across the country, a film is based on a book, nobody protested against the book while it was in public domain.”

While the person, on whom the film is based chose to remain quiet when asked about the film. Manmohan Singh was spotted arriving at the Congress Office for the party’s 134th-anniversary celebration. There he paused for a moment to answer media but kept mum at the question, “What do you think about the film made about you?”

The movie coming out on January 11, 2018.
