Despite her excellent relation with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sonam Kapoor backed off from her promise of attending Padmaavat screening. Bollywood story makers can’t digest the fact that she chose not to show solidarity with the movie even when it went through such a troubled time with its release. But if sources are to be believed, Sonam has a well justified reason!
Sonam has taken this uncanny step to show her support for her own movie PadMan. Apparently the movie lost a lot of business by giving away its release date of Republic Day to Padmaavat. Although the decision was a voluntary one but Sonam decided to stick in support with her film and not attend Padmaavat screening.
One of the sources from Bhansali production quotes, “Sonam did not attend the film’s special preview even after assuring Sanjay that she would come. She also endorsed Swara Bhasker’s anti-Padmaavat letter without even watching the film.”
But, this is not all. Sonam has more reasons than one backing her decision. If the verbatim of one of the Bollywood insider is to be believed, “This is more to do with Deepika Padukone being the lead in Padmaavat. Ever since Sonam and Deepika were launched on the same Friday in 2007 with Saawariya and Om Shanti Om respectively, they have been at loggerheads. With Sonam’s Pad Man ready to compete with Padmaavat for eyeballs, Sonam saw it as a chance to get even with Deepika.”
Who is to say whatever is the truth. But if at all there is some truth to this theory, it will be fascinating to see how well does PadMan perform at the box office in comparison to Padmaavat.
