Tumhari Sulu actor Manav Kaul: I hate the term character actor!

Bollywood actress Manav Kaul says that he does not like the term character actor. An actor received a critical appreciation for his role which he played in the movie ‘Kai Po Che’, in the movie ‘City Light’ and now he played the role in the recently released movie titled ‘Tumhari Sulu’, where he played the role of Vidya Balan’s husband. He says that he hates the term character actor because according to him every actor plays or must play the character, as being a hero must be really boring.

Recently, during an interview, Manav says that he always knew that his recently released movie ‘Tumhari Sulu’ belonged to an actor Manav Kaul. However, he says that he wanted for after playing a series of negative roles. When asked the actor that why does he choose the movie ‘Tumhari Sulu?

On this, Manav said that when he heard the script he found the script so good and he immediately agreed to play the role of Vidya’s husband. Earlier, he played many negative characters and he was waiting for almost a year because he wanted to play a different role now. This movie was a welcome change that way too. He says that the character which he played the role in a movie was a dream role for him. For a very long time, he was waiting for something positive to happen and he had a lot of fun playing Sulu’s husband Ashok.

However, earlier he was appreciated for his role which he played in the movie ‘Kai Po Che’, ‘City Light’ and much more. When asked that how his character actor in the industry which is into hero worship? On this, Manav said that he just hate the term character actor. All the actors in the industry play character, heroes and are boring. He feels that everyone in the industry is playing a character now if you look from Ranveer Singh to Ranbir Kapoor.

He says that he loved playing the character of Ashok as he is a middle-class husband and he is having issues at work. He says that even in reality he comes from a middle-class family and humble background. He has seen his brother struggling all his life to establish his career and to make his dreams come true. He says that he has seen this life very closely so for him this movie was not an unfamiliar territory for him. He has been here and he has lived his life. He is like Ashok he is a very lovable person and he loves his family.

So, he says that his reality comes on the screen. The movie is a story of a husband and his wife. When asked the actor that why does he have to say about the shift? However, Manav says that there is no shift because they were having Hrishikesh Mukherjee telling all the stories all the time to them as they have grown up loving his pictures. He believes that the marriage in our culture is very special. There is a lot of love and compassion so even if they that there is a change in the cinema by showing such stories then it is a good shift. He says that he is very much happy because they are finally showing their real lives on the screen and there are people who can actually relate to there lives and can feel good. In the movie, they have shown the happy middle-class marriage.

When the actor asked the actor did he always know that Vidya Balan was the protagonist in the movie ‘Tumhari Sulu’? On this Manav says that he knew this thing from the very beginning that it is Vidya Balan’s movie. He thaGodd god that it is her movie. He even compared Vidya Balan with the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar batting. He says that it is because of him that others in the team can relax a bit. He feels that she is an amazing actor and he is blessed that he got to work along with her. He says that he is glad that now the industry has more and more female-centric films.

In the movie, ‘Tumhari Sulu’ Vidya Balan and Manav looked very organic and both the actors are very close to age. However, there is no age parity and which is not a case in the Hindi movies. Many times in the industry they have seen that much older male actor romancing a much younger female actor.

However, he feels that not only in India we see that the older male actors are working along with the younger female actors. He believes that it is a glamorous industry and it has been happening. He even remembers the interview which he read and that is of  Meryl Streep and she even said that she is not having work. He feels that it happens everywhere and nobody can tell when will be the industry change but he thinks that it is a high time that they should change it.

Manav even feels that it more about what exactly what more the audience wants to see and in that way, actors work in the society, He thinks that the changes have to come from the society itself where they look out for the better entertainmnet, for better performances and for even better movies.
