On Thursday, at the Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, the writer and the lyricist Javed Akhtar says that earning appreciation as a songwriter is not an easy thing. He feels that in today’s world it is just not very easy for a songwriter to earn appreciation for his/her work because many of the composers in the Hindi cinema are not giving us enough opportunities to do that.
Remembering his old days, he says that in their time there was an orchestra just to give rest to the singers in between recording the song. Now, singers are there to give rest to the orchestra. He feels that the music is the reflection of the society. Songs are just not the songs they are the reflection of the era’ faith, it’s value, people’s nature and the most important is that they teach us the way of living through the song’s tune, voice, and lyrics. These all things used to reflect in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
However, he feels that all this allegation of the young generation are false and the truth is that people who all are controlling this business think that way. Recently, Javed was awarded in the presence of the legendary singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Cultural Affairs Minister of Maharashtra Vinod Tawde and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Javed says that the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was an instrumental in his career as a songwriter however he realized this thing much later. Earlier he was working as a scriptwriter and he wrote many scripts for the Yash Chopra movies like ‘Deewar’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Kala Patthar’ and much more. One day he was sitting with Yash Chopra and Yash gave him the suggestion that he should write a song for his another movie ‘Silsila’. However, Javed refused the offer at that time.
Javed says that at that time he used to write Shayaris and he never got those Shayaris published. There were only 5-6 people who know about his talent and those people are very close to him and Yash Chopra was one of them. Later, he got to know that Saadhir Ludhianvi refused to write the songs for the movie and then Yash Chopra had gone to Lata Mangeshkar for some suggestion and Lata suggested Javed’s name to Yash and that is how he wrote the lyrics for his first ever movie.
