Ever since the Salman-Bhatt-Bhansali big project Inshallah was called off, Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt fans were shattered and disappointed. The highway actress had made her excitement too transparent to the audience, to work with Bhaijaan and be a Bhansali fame. But, unfortunately the film got cancelled and to everyone’s surprise Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced his next Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt in the lead.
Gangubai Kathiawadi is a story that revolves around the life of Gangubai Kothewali. According to the ace journalist Hussain Zaidi’s book Queens of Mumbai, Gangubai Kothewali is considered to be the matriarch of Kamathipura in Mumbai. She was the owner of brothel, who also peddled drugs. Known as the ‘Madam of Kamathipura,’ Gangubai had connections with the underworld.
Reportedly, Bhansali might whitewash Bhatt’s role as prostitute Gangubai Kathiawadi and conceal the dark side of the character. However, the filmmaker has not made any public statement as such.
Prior reports also said that Alia is going to learn the local language for her first ever Bhansali project and the filmmaker is looking for a personal tutor for the actor. Speaking of the cast, the male lead of the film has not been finalised yet, but several names inluding Ajay Devgn had made it to the news. This dream Bhansali-Bhatt project will hit the screens in 2020.
Last night the actor-filmmaker duo was spotted outside the Bhansali office. Alia, currently has various big projects in hand including Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra, Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2 and Karan Johar’s multistarrer Takht. Whereas Bhansali at present has nothing in the list except Gangubai Kathiawadi. His last film Malaal produced under the Bhansali banner didn’t do well at theatres, even though the cast was appreciated for the roles they played.
