Months after setting a target of making their devices AER, One Plus 8 is finally the first phone to be AER.

What is AER?

Android Enterprise Recommended is a validation program offered by Google for devices, vendors, and partners launched in February 2018. The program currently focuses on devices and EMMs but will continue to extend out to carriers and MSPs in 2019.

Since the introduction of Android Enterprise Recommended, over 70 additional devices have been added to the line-up, including Sony, Nokia, Zebra, BQ, Motorola, and more.  Currently, around 189 devices are certified as AER. To be present in this program.

One Plus had set the target earlier this year to make it into the AER and now One Plus 8 has made the cut. There is a specific benchmark which the phone must surpass to qualify for AER. including offering 8+ hours of battery life, have at least 2GB of RAM, and feature a minimum of 32GB of storage.

One Plus 8 has easily surpassed this benchmark. It has 12gigs of RAM 256GB storage and, 4300mAh battery. The company recently promised three years of bi-monthly security patches and at least two years of major Android updates. This is also an important requirement to get certified by AER.

Google also invited Samsung for this but Samsung hasn’t joined the program.

One Plus has been a fan favorite since its inception and this addition in AER is also one big step for One Plus devices. One Plus 8 has made the cut but it is still not sure whether One Plus Nord or One Plus 8 Pro will get certified for AER or not. They are capable of meeting the hardware requirements.
