There are still some months left in the launch of Samsung Galaxy S11, but rummors are still around the corner with some early details about the next flagships. Back in May Samsung announced that it has started the mass production of its new 5x optical module and now a report from South Korean tech news outlet The Elec claims that the Galaxy S11 series will debut with the new periscope unit alongside a 108MP main shooter.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has a video which shows the new sensor in action. The module comes with a thin 5mm profile which will allow it not to protrude too much from the back of the phone. There’s also OIS, which is certainly going to be handy at these focal lengths. While these are just speculations at this point, it would make sense for Samsung to debut their new camera development with next year’s flagship S-devices.

Here how the Samsung is working on 5x optical zoom, for existing camera modules, the higher the optical zoom’s magnification is, the higher the height of the module. Due to the thickness of the smartphone, anything higher than 5x optical zoom was not possible with the previous method. This is because the camera will excessively protrude on the back of the smartphone, which makes it look ugly. However, laying the camera module flat like a periscope can solve the problem. By this Folded zoom technology the higher magnification of more than 5x without making any changes in the camera height is possible. The Flooded zoom works by bending the direction of light with the help of prism. With the help of flooded zoom and the OIS, you can take photos in a longer distance more clearly and closely than existing 2x optical zoom.
