It has been reported that a Cambodian casino operator, NagaCorp is allegedly laying off close to 600 employees.

It broke out last week when the employees started receiving messages about the lay off and hue and cry was raised.

The employees allege that the company reported a profit of $102.3m for 2020 and the company is falsely taking a shield of ongoing pandemic restrictions on casinos.

It was also stated that the employees barely make few hundred dollars a month and that the company which is making profits should not have laid off its staff.

The company, however, maintained that closure of casinos and its venues due to ongoing pandemic is the reason behind such a decision.

Chhun Sokha, Vice President of the NagaWorld Union stated that company is providing $10m to Cambodian govt. to battle pandemic, but its not taking care of its employees.

As per Gambling Insider report, Sokha added: “We are happy for the generosity of the company that is providing the Government with subsidies to help the Cambodian people during the Covid-19 crisis.”

“This gesture is just a fake, a hoax picture because the actions that the company has taken regarding the employees – mostly women, including, pregnant women and women who have given birth – also got the company’s layoff notification.”
