IPL 2020 : UP Police cracks down betting ring in Ayodhya; raids 12 places, arrests 17 bookies

The IPL betting rings and gangs continue to be busted in different parts of the country. Within 12 days of IPL 2020 being played in UAE, more than 12 incidents of IPL betting and arrests have rocked the country.

This time, the UP Police busted a betting ring in Ayodhya for betting on IPL 2020 matches. The DIG of Ayodhya, Mr. Deepak Kumar, on Sunday, September 27, 2020 raided almost 12 places during night time.

Mr. Kumar stated that he had received a tip-off from an informant and proceeded with the raids with the help of his team.

17 bookies are reported to be arrested during the raids at these 12 locations in Ayodhya.

In an interview with Times of India, DIG Kumar stated that, “I received information that betting on IPL matches is being done in different city localities. We raided over 12 spots under Kotwali city, Faizabad and in Cantonment police station area of the district where bookies were active and managed to arrest 17 of them.”

He further added in the said interview that, “mobile phones, betting slips, cash, calculators and register containing names of persons involved in the betting have been recovered from the arrested bookies.”

It was also reported that few police personnel were suspended for negligence.
