COVID-19 pandemic jolted the casino industry to its core and caused losses of billions of dollars. With casinos forced to cut short the staff strength and reduce the guest intake due to COVID-19 restrictions, a lot of property is left unused.

Wynn Resorts on Las Vegas Strip on suffering the same situation saw this as an opportunity to utilize the dead part of the resort’s property.

Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox has decided to turn the part of the resort to a COVID-19 testing facility.

This would enable Maddox’s Wynn Resort to generate new source of revenue to cover up the losses and utilize the left space which cannot be used due to limited customer intake.

He explained his approach in an article he wrote for The Nevada Independent and stated that facility is being launched in collaboration with the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. This facility would test thousands of patients each day; deliver results same day as well as charge the potential patients less than other testing centers.

He stated that, “It’s important to note that our UMC/Wynn lab will offer the most sensitive and accurate test available in the United States utilizing FDA approved ‘gold standard’ PCR technology, and we are talking to UNLV to track and analyze the results. Our lab should be finished before Thanksgiving. Extensive research clearly indicates that what is keeping people away from Las Vegas is not so much the physical environment, which we work diligently to keep sterilized, but rather a fear of other people. We must alleviate that fear”, reported CalvinAyre (October 2, 2020).

He added, “I do hope a vaccine will be available and widely adopted soon, but we can’t wait. We want Nevadans back to work and our kids back to school. We owe these efforts to our visitors and to the citizens of Las Vegas whose lives and futures depend on Las Vegas attracting millions of tourists and getting back to the business of fun”.
