PM Modi to launch PM-PVTG Mission, Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Pradhan Mantri Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PM-PVTG) Mission and the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra on January 15, 2024, on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. He will be visiting Jharkhand on Wednesday to launch the two initiatives. He will be visiting the village of Ulihatu, the birthplace of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

The PM-PVTG Mission is a new initiative aimed at holistic development of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in India. There are 75 PVTGs in 18 states and union territories living in 22,544 villages (220 districts) having a population of around 28 lakhs.

The mission will focus on providing these groups with access to basic facilities such as education, healthcare, housing, and livelihood opportunities.

These tribes stay in scattered, remote and inaccessible habitations, often in forest areas and hence a mission with budget of about Rs 24,000 crore, is planned to saturate PVTG families and habitations with basic facilities such as road and telecom connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

In addition, separately, saturation will be ensured forĀ  PMJAY, Sickle Cell Disease Elimination, TB Elimination, 100% immunisation, PM Surakshit Matritva Yojana, PM Matru Vandana Yojana, PM Poshan, PM Jan Dhan Yojana etc.

The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra is a nationwide campaign that will be launched to ensure saturation of government schemes and benefits to all citizens, including tribal communities. The yatra will cover all districts in India over a period of six months.

The focus of the Yatra will be on reaching out to people and creating awareness and providing benefits of welfare schemes like sanitation facilities, essential financial services, electricity connections, access to LPG cylinders, housing for the poor, food security, proper nutrition, reliable healthcare, clean drinking water, etc. Enrolment of potential beneficiaries will be done through details ascertained during the Yatra.

The Prime Minister will kick off the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ by inaugurating Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) vans in Khunti, Jharkhand. Initially targeting districts with significant tribal populations, the Yatra aims to cover all districts nationwide by January 25, 2024.
