Even though people have been celebrating and expressing happiness over the encounter that killed four accused involved in Telangana rape and murder case, questions have been raised over the same.
Raising questions over authenticity of the encounter, Bharatiya Janata party leader Meenakshi Lekhi said that an inquiry must happen in the police encounter in Telangana as it took place in the wee hours (between 3 am- 6 am).
Union Minister Maneka Gandhi termed the encounter as ‘dangerous incident’ and said, “Those people were in any case going to get hanging as punishment for the heinousness of their crime. But you cannot kill people because you want to.”
On the other hand, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has cautioned over extra-judicial killings. He said, “Agree in principle. We need to know more, for instance if the criminals were armed, the police may have been justified in opening fire preemptively. Until details emerge we should not rush to condemn. But extra-judicial killings are otherwise unacceptable in a society of laws.”
Hyderabad Police on Friday claimed that all the four accused in 26-year-old veterinary surgeon’s rape and murder case have been shot dead. They were taken to the murder site to recreate the events on that night as a part of investigation and tried to flee. The encounter took place around 3am.
However, legal experts have demanded immediate probe to verify the encounter.
