Congress party has been left divided on the Union’s decision of revoking Article 370. The party has largely condemned the move but its leaders are divided into both sides.

While Senior leaders like Leader of Opposition, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and former Home Minister, P Chidambaram have condemned the decision by ruling party, few members of Congress seem to take a different stand.

P Chidambram said that Monday was the worst day in the constitutional history of India. He urged other party leaders to rise up to the cause and confront the government’s decision. While Ghulam Nabi Azad equated the decision of revoking special status of Jammu and Kashmir to the murder of democracy.

On the other hand, Congress working Committee member Deependera Hooda has expressed his support in favor of the government’s decision. He said that archaic provisions like Article 370 do not carry validity in the new age of the 21st century. Though he advised the government to execute their decision in such manner that it does not cost the peace of the state and its people.

On the same line, Senior Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi backed the government’s resolution and said that it is a right step to correct a historic mistake. He told that his views are completely personal and he is not expressing the stand of his party through this statement.

Congress MLA from Uttar Pradesh Aditi Singh also lauded the decision to scrap Article 370.

In another incident, Congress MP from Rajya Sabha Bhubaneshwar Kalita resigned from his post, opposing his party’s stand against Article 370. His resignation has been accepted in the house.

Different kind of opinions has been emerging out from Congress faction on this decision. It can be seen as the internal strife between the top leaders of Congress. Though as a party, Congress has termed Monday as “Black Day” and openly opposed the resolution.

Top leaders of Party like Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have yet not issued any statement on the matter for now.
