The United States on Friday, praised the efforts made by India and Pakistan to develop people-to-people contact between the two countries. United States said it welcomes the efforts made by the two countries, who laid foundation stones at Kartarpur corridor linking countries from the both sides.

According to news reports, state department deputy spokesman Robert Palladino said, “I’m aware of reports on this Kartarpur corridor. I understand that it’s kind of a visa-free way for Indians to visit this important Sikh site. And of course, the United States would welcome efforts to increase people-to-people ties between India and Pakistan.”

Palladino made this statement while responding to a question raised by the reports on the much-awaited construction to link India’s Dera Baba Nanak gurudwara to Pakistan’s Darbar Sahib gurudwara in Kartarpur. It was first visa-free movement facilitated by both the government of the countries- India and Pakistan, for Sikh pilgrims to peacefully visit their shrines at both the sides.

The Kartarpur corridor’s construction, which was proposed by India 20 years ago to Pakistan, is expected be completed by next six months.

Palladino said, “The Secretary (of State) has emphasized the need for Pakistan to deliver outcome and build confidence and trust between our two countries, and our policy towards Pakistan is clear.”
