The opposition parties are all set to tackle the 2019 Lok Sabha elections against the Bharatiya Janata Party. According to NDTV report, Rahul Gandhi‘s Congress, Mayawati‘s BSP, Akhilesh Yadav‘s SP and Ajit Singh‘s RLD have come to an understanding to fight against BJP in Uttar Pradesh, the state which offers maximum Lok Sabha seats.

However, the sharing of 80 seats is yet to be decided by the parties. The building of a strong opposition front in the state which sends the highest number of people to the Lower House of the Parliament worked for the opposition parties during by-elections held in UP ealier this year– they won the high-profile seats of Gorakhpur and Phulpur, including Kairana and Noorpur. The results of the by-elections proved that a united opposition front is capable of defeating BJP in the state.

The state assembly polls in Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are to be held later this year. Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar met BSP supremo Mayawati last week to work out the seat-sharing in these three upcoming state elections, said the NDTV report.

According to the report, in Madhya Pradesh, BSP chief Mayawati is demanding 50 of the state’s 230 seats. However, the inside Congress sources reveal that the party is only ready to give 22 seats and will not go beyond 30.

In Uttar Pradesh, Ajit Singh’s RLD will get the seats from the Samajwadi Party’s quota in the 2019 general elections.

A leader stated that Congress will not be offered more than 10 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh: “Unless there are tough negotiations, we will not agree to more than 10. The BSP will be given the maximum seats and the SP will be contesting approximately on 32. Three seats will go to the RLD.”

According to the Congress sources, the alliance in Uttar Pradesh is “work in progress”, reported NDTV report.
