A Special MP-MLA fast track court on Tuesday awarded 3-month jail sentence to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Manoj Kumar in a case related to obstructing the polling process in the 2013 Assembly Elections in the national Capital’s Kalyan Puri assembly segment.

However, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Samar Vishal granted to bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA after he deposited a sum of ₹10,000 as a bail bond. He has been granted bail for 10 days so that the lawmaker can approach the Higher Court if he wants to.

Manoj Kumar had in 2013 and 2015 contested from Kondli Assembly seat. In 2013 assembly polls, when AAP made a debut, Kumar was among the AAP’s 28 MLAs who won the battle. He had defeated Dushyant Kumar Gautam of Bharatiya Janata Party with over 7,000 votes.

In 2015, he again registered a victory from the seat and that time with over 24,00 votes.

According to the prosecution, during 2013 assembly polls, AAP MLA Manoj Kumar along with other 50 protestors had obstructed the election process at a polling station in Kalyan Puri area of East Delhi.

Earlier on June 11, The court had convicted AAP Lawmaker for creating hindrance in the working of a public servant who was in discharge of public functions. He was convicted under Section 186 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 131 of Representation of People Act, 1951 for disorderly conduct in or near polling stations during polls.
