As the Karnataka crisis deepens, Congress on Wednesday tasked its Leader and Senior Supreme Court Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi to represent the party in the plea filed by rebels in the Supreme Court. Speaking on the development Karnataka State Incharge KC Venugopal told media, ‘Abhishek Manu Singhvi ji will represent us in Supreme Court tomorrow in the case filed by rebel Karnataka MLAs.

Earlier in the day, 10 Rebel Legislators from Congress and JD(S) Coalition government moved to the Apex Court against the Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar for delaying in accepting their resignation.

The Rebels alleged that Assembly Speaker is not performing his constitutional duty and deliberately delaying the acceptance of their resignations submitted with him since Saturday.

Representing the rebel faction, Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi filed a plea in the Supreme Court and sought an urgent hearing on the matter.

Speaking on the development, Mukul Rohatgi, Counsel for Karnataka rebels MLAs said, ‘The petition has been filed by 10 MLAs. They have resigned voluntarily & they are complaining that Speaker is not taking an immediate decision and is deliberately delaying it for various reasons’.

 

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi assured him that the plea would be heard but at some later date. The Top court is likely to take up the matter tomorrow.

While the Karnataka political turmoil on Wednesday turned ugly after Mumbai Police came down heavily on Congress Leader who was seeking to enter Hotel in Mumbai where rebels MLAs are staying.

Congress leader DK Shivakumar who was sitting outside the Hotel Renaissance after being denied entry was detained by Mumbai Police. Former Union minister Milind Deora and former Maharashtra minister Naseem Khan, who had arrived to meet Shivakumar, were also detained by Mumbai police.

It should be noted that the Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar had on Tuesday said that out of all the 13 Resignations submitted only 5 are in the correct format. While the rest of the remaining Eight are not in the correct format. He asked the MLAs to submit the resignation again properly.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback on Saturday when 11 MLAs from Congress–JD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation. And thereafter political episode and drama started in Karnataka.
