APAndhra Pradesh’s new assembly to be taller than Statue of Unity

The proposed Andhra Pradesh Assembly building in Amaravati is expected to be taller than the 182-metre Statue of Unity in Gujarat by 68 metres. The Assembly building will have 3 floors and a 250-metre-high tower.

According to the reports, CM N Chandrababu Naidu has almost finalized the design by Foster & Partners in the United Kingdom. Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana said the proposed structure will be shaped like an upside-down lily and will be cyclone and earthquake-proof. The government is likely to call for tenders for building construction by the end of November. In the meantime, a non-profit Buddhist organisation has also reportedly demanded land from the Gujarat government to build an 80-feet high statue of Lord Buddha in Gandhinagar.

The State of Unity was unveiled in Gujarat on October 31 was built at cost of Rs 3,000 crore. The statue of Vallabhbhai Patel statue is the tallest in the world and has surpassed China’s Spring Temple Buddha (128 metres). It was inaugurated by PM Modi, who said that the statue will remind the nation of Sardar Vallabhai Patel’s efforts to unify India shortly after the country gained independence from the British.

Two more states have made announcements lately about building grand statues.

  •  Uttar Pradesh CM Adithyanath announced that his state would build a 201-metre tall statue of Lord Ram.
  • Following it,  Karnataka government announced to build a 125 feet (38.1 meters) statue of Mother Cauvery.
