Led by N Biren Singh, the BJP government in Manipur won the floor test today in the assembly with 32 out of 60 seats. In the recently concluded assembly elections, BJP had finished second after Congress. Congress had won 28 out of 60 seats, whereas BJP emerged as the number 2 party with 21 seats.

As per the reports, in the flooor test which took place in Manipur assembly today, Nongthombam Biren Singh led government was supported by 32 MLAs, 11 of which were from parties other than BJP, to cross the full majority mark.

The parties which supported BJP in Manipur included National People’s Party, Naga People Front and Lok Jan Shakti Party. NPP and NPF had 4 MLAs each whereas LJP had won on one seat. 1 MLA had fought on Trinamool ticket whereas the last one was an independent candidate.

Before the floor test started, the MLAs elected Yumnam Khemchand Singh as the speaker of newly formed BJP assembly. He was elected by voice vote before the house began its proceedings for the floor test.

N Biren Singh had  recently taken oath as the chief minister of the state. He has taken over from Congress’s Ibobi Singh.
