MCD elections 2017

After the humiliating defeat in Delhi Municipal Corporation results last month, both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party get a little to cheer. In the by-polls of two seats, which could not go into elections because of the demise of two candidates from Samajwadi Party, both the parties have registered one seat each.

Elections at two MCD constituencies did not take place in April, which included Sarai Pipal ward in North Delhi Municipality and Maujpur ward under East Delhi Municipality. According to State Election Commission, Mukesh Goel of Congress emerged victorious from Sarai Pipal ward whereas Reshma from AAP won from Maujpur ward. State Election Commission had held election for Sarai Pipal constituency on May 14, whereas Maujpur ward went into elections on May 21st.

Two Samajwadi Party leaders had died after filing nominations from these constituencies respectively. That resulted in postponed elections for both these constituencies.
