Gearing up for the forthcoming Maharashtra assembly polls, Congress party has announced that the party will release the list of its candidates on September 20.

The decision was conveyed by State Congress President Balasaheb Thorat. The list will carry the names of first 50 candidates who will fight the elections. Balasaheb Thorat said that the list has been prepared after a careful discussion of the party’s screening committee. Around four meetings were held to prepare the final list.

While speaking to ANI, he said that the party has given preference to the sitting MLAs. The party has also considered those senior candidates who have a bright chance of winning the elections. The party’s state president also said slammed the BJP and Shiv Sena party for diverting the attention of common people. He said that these parties are trying to shift the agenda of elections by roping in the repeal of Article 370 and etc.

As quoted by ANI, he said, “However, the assembly polls will be fought on local issues that concern the common man. These include economic distress apart from farmers’ suffering.”

Previously, Congress party and NCP has also decided to fight about 123-125 seats each respectively. On being asked about the chief-ministerial candidate for the grouping, Balasaheb Thorat said that the party has not taken any decision yet. Any name will be decided peacefully by both parties.

It has also been reported that the Congress-NCP team will leave 41 constituencies for smaller allies in the state. In this regard, Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had said that there are talks going on with Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, Samajwadi Party.

It is expected that the list will contain the names of Prithviraj Chavan and Ashok Chavan, Praniti Shinde and Balasaheb Thorat.

Maharashtra assembly polls with a total of 288 seats will go to polls soon.
