The second meeting of newly reconstituted Congress Working Committee (CWC) was held on Saturday headed by the Party President Rahul Gandhi. The party discussed several issues like NRC final draft, issues of corruption, failure of the BJP government to provide employment, among others.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “The CWC met today. As a team, we discussed the political situation in the country & the huge opportunity for the Congress to highlight issues of corruption and failure of the government to provide jobs to our youth. Thank you to all those who attended today’s meeting.”

Party veteran and former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot told the media after the meeting, “Issues of NRC Draft Bill, corruption, bank fraud cases and Rafale deal were discussed in CWC. Discussions were held on the issue of unemployment. We have also started preparations for upcoming elections in four states.”

Apart from these issues, fugitive Mehul Chowksi was also discussed in the CWC meet. “Mehul Choksi got Antigua and Barbuda citizenship. We discussed how the MEA, in a conspiracy at the direction of the Modi government, helped him get a citizenship in Antigua in January 2017. Between 2015 and 2017, 42 cases were lodged against Choksi, Nirav Modi and their companies,” said Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Sujrewala added, “Choksi, in an affidavit to the Gujarat High Court, in 2016 said that he will not leave the country or deposit his passport. If you (government) knew about this in 2017, why did Modi give him a clean chit?”

Sujrewala addressed the media after the meeting and told them that the party has decided to launch a ‘Jan Andolan’ against the BJP government in some days after discussing it with the party’s state units, reported PTI.

Talking about NRC, Sujrewala said, “The NRC is a baby of the Congress party and it will ensure that no Indian citizens are deprived of his legitimate right.”
