As the crisis in Karnataka crisis deepens, Congress State Minister DK Shivakumar and JD-S MLA Shivalinga Gowda on Wednesday reached Mumbai on Wednesday morning in a special flight. Both Shivakumar and Gowda reached the city to meet the rebels who are staying in the Hotel Renaissance in Powai.

In the meantime, heavy security has been deployed outside the Hotel in Powai with Maharashtra State Reserve Police Force and Riot Control Force have been deployed. Reacting on the heavy deployment of Police, Congress Minister DK Shivakumar said, ‘Let the Mumbai Police do their duty, I came here to meet my friends, We born in politics together and will die together’.

The Heavy Police deployment outside the hotel in Powai came after the rebel legislators wrote a letter to Mumbai Commissioner of Police stating that they feel threatened after hearing that the Chief Minister and some Minister are coming to the hotel.

In a letter to Mumbai Commissioner of Police, rebel MLAs stated, ‘We are elected members of the Karnataka Assembly and staying in the hotel renaissance. We have heard that CM HD Kumaraswamy along with some ministers are going to storm in the Hotel, We feel threatened for the Same. Kindly help us in the matter and do not allow them inside the Hotel premises.

In the meantime, Mumbai Police already clarified that they will not allow DK Shivakumar and others inside the hotel where the rebels are staying.

While earlier on Monday, Congress Legislative Party meeting held in Bangalore. Speaking to media earlier in the day, SG Siddaramaiah said that they have decided to file a petition before Assembly Speaker to disqualify all the rebels and request him to not accept the resignation.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback on Saturday when 11 MLAs from Congress–JD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation.

With the resignation of 11 MLAs of Congress-JDS and 2 Independent MLAs, the coalition government reduced to a minority with 104 MLAs which is 9 less than the required figures. All the rebel MLAs who are currently in Mumbai slammed Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. However, they junked reports of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

However, the Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar has yet not taken a call. In the meantime, Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar has written to State Governor stating that ‘None of the rebel MLAs have met him’. He has also expressed confidence that he will uphold constitutional norms.

He further added that out of the 13 resignations, 8 are not according to law. He has given time to all Lawmakers to present themselves before him.
