Ghulam Nabi Azad-Karnatka-Crisis

As the political crisis deepens in Karnataka, the Congress on Wednesday tasked its Senior Leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and BK Hariprasad to tackle the political turmoil in Karnataka. Both – Azad and Hariprasad is expected to reach Karnataka soon and will hold discussion with leaders to keep the coalition government intact.

Sources familiar with the development claimed that both the leaders will hold parleys Congress as well as Janata Dal (Secular) Leader and will try to resolve the crisis to keep the government safe.

While earlier in the day Congress Legislative Party meeting held in Bangalore. Speaking to media earlier in the day, SG Siddaramaiah said that they have decided to file a petition before Assembly Speaker to disqualify all the rebels and request him to not accept the resignation.

In a press Conference, Former Karnataka CM said, ‘Karnataka Congress is seeking disqualification of members for their anti-party activity. All the rebels have colluded with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He added that he requested them to come back and withdraw their resignation.

SG Siddaramaiah added that they have decided to file a petition before Assembly Speaker to disqualify all the rebels and request him to not accept the resignation. He further said that they will request the assembly speaker to take action against all the under the anti-defection law.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback on Saturday when11 MLAs from Congress–JD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation.

With the resignation of 11 MLAs of Congress-JDS and 2 Independent MLAs, the coalition government reduced to a minority with 104 MLAs which is 9 less than the required figures. All the rebel MLAs who are currently in Mumbai slammed Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. However, they junked reports of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

However, the Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar has yet not taken a call. In the meantime, Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar has written to State Governor stating that ‘None of the rebel MLAs have met him’. He has also expressed confidence that he will uphold constitutional norms.

He further added that out of the 13 resignations, 8 are not according to law. He has given time to all Lawmakers to present themselves before him.
