Ajit Pawar

Hours after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in a coup and taking oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar was removed as the Nationalist Congress Party’s legislature unit.

Objecting to the move of the NCP, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday said that the removal of Ajit Pawar as NCP’s legislature unit was ‘invalid’. Speaking to the media, NCP’s national spokesperson Nawab Malik said that Ajit Pawar has committed a grave mistake. He said, “Efforts are being made since yesterday to make him understand, he has not given any indication so far. It will be better if he realizes his mistake.”

Earlier, NCP President Sharad Pawar also issued a clarification on Saturday and said, “Ajit Pawar’s decision to support the BJP to form the Maharashtra Government is his personal decision and not that of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). We place on record that we do not support or endorse this decision of his.

The NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena trio is confident of majority and forming government in Maharashtra as the NCP claims 49-50 MLAs of the party are with them.
