While addressing the conference organized by CII in Imphal, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said that, the new government in Manipur is working on a plan to transform itself into a thriving healthcare and medical tourism hub. He also told that Manipur is capable enough now to cater other North Eastern States as well as Myanmar in terms of improved healthcare services.

He further added that Manipur government is in talks with the Centre to make travelling from Myanmar to Manipur easier. Providing some facts he said that, by 2025, India’s population is will approximately reach 1.4 billion, from which the urban adults will constitute of total 45% of it. As per these data, to match with the the demographic change, the healthcare sector will have to be about $100 billion in size contributing nearly 8 to 10% to the then GDP.

FINER president Pabitra Buragohain met Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi and submitted a representation, highlighting the specific needs of the North Eastern Region, seeking the Centre’s intervention in finalising the industrial policy. The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) has urged the Centre to formulate a focused and favorable industrial policy for the North East and how the currently applicable Central excise duty refund would continue under the GST regime.

Some crucial issues regarding industries, like the Assam and North East issue are still unclear. This calls for some attension as the GST is soon likely to be implemented from 1 July.

A similar presentation was presented by the FINER president to DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh earlier this week seeking help for the same.

The centre is drafting new policy for Northeast India as the NEIIPP-2007 expired on March 31, 2017.
